Hatha Yoga.
The ancient sage Patanjali brought us Yoga "for the serenity and sanctity of mind, grammar for clarity and purity of speech and medicine for the perfection of health”.
Why Yoga?
I discovered Yoga at university and experienced how it helped me keep fit and deal calmly with stressful situations. Yoga actually means “yoke" or “link" and the aim of yoga practice is to connect all aspects of your being, physical, emotional, mental and deep self. Regular practice, at any age, enables you to improve your physical strength, suppleness and energy as well as helping you remain calm and positive in the face of adversity.
-
Asanas or physical postures are only one of the 8 limbs of Yogic philosophy designed to train the student to sit comfortably for meditation and to balance and connect every part of the student’s being. When all the limbs of Yogic philosophy are combined, even in just a 1 hour class, it is possible to feel deeply calm, energised and optimistic.
-
Yes! Yoga is the perfect complement to Homeopathy for maintaining one’s health whatever your age. Many physical and emotional problems can be helped by practicing Yoga regularly including blood pressure and circulatory problems, hormonal imbalance, anxiety, digestive issues, and so on.
What limbs do my classes include?
Pranayama
Controlling the breath, which is the source of our prana, or vital life force.
Asanas
Stretching, strengthening and balancing postures.
Dhahrana
Focusing or '“holding the mind at one point”.
Pratayahara
Inner reflection or "the conscious withdrawal of energy from the senses."
My Classes
Whatever limitations you have, whether physical or mental, Yoga is truly for all. I offer group or private classes for beginners and regular students of Holistic Yoga.
-
I teach a combination of warm ups, breath work (Pranayama), stretching, strengthening and balancing postures (Asanas), focusing (Dhahrana) and inner reflection (Pratayahara), touching on the 8 Limbs of Yoga. Every class ends with shavasana, a practice of deep relaxation and reflection in which you can enter a state of consciousness between sleep and wakefulness.
